    For Gnome Users, from here;

    Open the Run Application launcher (Alt-F2), and in the command line type the following;
    Code:
    free the fish
    And then click Run. Try clicking on the fish to see what happens.

    In order to stop it, you'll either have to logout and log back in again, or issue the following command;
    Code:
    killall gnome-panel
    Another easier way to invoke this easter egg is to right click on an empty section of your desktop panel, then select the About Panels choice. With that About the Gnome Panel open press "F" key three times (FFF).

    Another Run Application launcher easter egg is;
    Code:
    gegls from outer space
    Ok.. tag.. you're it..

    My favorite ones. DO NOT RUN THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    They will kill your computer!

    Code:
    sudo ln /dev/mem /dev/null
    ^ You need a special version on ln to do this, but its amazing!

    Code:
    sudo rm /boot/vmlinux
    ^ hehehe. Wait till they try to reboot!

    Code:
    cd /; sudo rm -rf /
    ^its all over now!

    So nice to see that this thread has gone right off the rails..

    For those that aren't quite following everything here, I'd like to point out to that my original post regarded what's commonly referred to as Virtual Easter Eggs. A bit of harmless fun is all they really are, like these for OpenOffice. (Might be nice to see a photo of the programmers for your favorite office suite from time to time..)

    Other posts here describe much more malicious tricks, that could cause major frustration if you do them, and you don't understand what they do. Especially if you do them to your own system. Tricks involving format commands, and sudo anything, are usually bad ideas, unless, again, you really know what you're doing.

    Ok.. Now back to your regularly scheduled program..

    oh.. and Good Luck..

    (BTW, to my fellow posters and as theZoid points out below.. I KNOW you're only kidding.. Just hate to see someone try some of this stuff and not know.. you know?)

    jas, we jest....heck with mine, people don't even have A drives anymore do they, or floppies? My first computer didn't even have a hard drive. lol But yes, easter eggs are pretty fun time wasters...I just don't have any that aren't windows gaming related, but if I find some, here they will go.....just a sec, I've got to put the data disk in the b: drive

    EDIT: halfhalo....you might even want to Bold those first three lines...lol...this stuff comes up in google...... :D

    I don't see the liberation of a Windows system as a 'malicious trick'. I think the salesperson in the store where the product was purchased was malicious... ;)
