I'm picking up an X220t on the cheap as a friend of mine is upgrading to a helix. I'd like to throw ubuntu on there and see just how far the pen and touch recognition have been coming along. Does anyone have any experience with the penabled convertibles and ubuntu?

Pen recognition has never been a problem on ThinkPad convertibles in Linux, even going back to X41T days. Everything worked pretty much "out of the box".
As for the finger use...it works, but I can't tell you how well since I really don't like touching the screen with my fingers...had Mint installed on X220T for a bit last year, no complaints.
Obviously, YMMV.

Fantastic to hear, thanks.
I feel the same way, to be honest. Just curious to know how it's coming along (I'll report back my findings) since I am quite interested by the prospect of eventually having a phone-sized linux device that isn't hog-tied by google. -
A lot is going to depend on what exactly you're intent on using it for.
My current ThinkPad convertible (X61T with a pen-only SXGA+ LCD from X60T) works well in CentOS for me. Having said that, I'm not a graphic artist or anything along those lines. For writing purposes and some other fairly basic stuff I couldn't ask for anything more.
As previously stated, YMMV.
Any Thinkpad convertible owners who have tested ubuntu touch capabilities?
