For the last couple of days I have been having a hell of a time trying to download the new Ubuntu and Xubuntu 8.04 AMD64 ISOs. I go to the page and click download and it gets so far and then my download just hangs. I tried different mirrors both in and out of the US and still the same result. I am downloading them with my wired Desktop connection. I am able to do everything else just fine on the web, so I don't think it is a network connection problem.
The download stops at different levels, sometimes at 3MB sometimes at 300MB. My desktop is running Kubuntu 8.04 x86. Anybody else having these problems?

I know for a fact that I'm seeding the Kubuntu 8.04 ISO. I agree with yoyodyne... try a torrent

I really don't know much about torrents. I just installed Ktorrent and read a couple of quick things about torrents. I will need to spend more time reading things about this. At this point I really don't understand how to download the ISO I need using torrents. Any suggested reading materials online?

BTW - I am still experiencing this weird problem downloading ISOs. I tried other sites like Crunchbang, Dreamlinux etc. With all of them I start to download for a little while then the download stalls. I was initially thinking that it was just the Ubuntu servers, but now I am not sure. I can get to the internet fine and browse to any page I want. It is just when I try to download ISOs. I have never dealt with this problem before on this machine. Any guesses what it could be? I don't have a firewall installed that I know of(not sure if IPtables is active or not, I haven't touched it). I didn't install any new hardware either.

You download the .torrent file, then open the torrent in ktorrent, and it will download the ISO from all the other computers that are hosting that file, different pieces from different machines, so you end up getting the whole thing faster in aggregate, usually.

And if you're having problems downloading large files from multiple places, you may have a problem with your networking hardware, or your ISP may just suck. A torrent may help, since it downloads things in small chunks, rather than as a giant piece all at once.

Thanks Pitabred, that was a short but sweet intro to torrents that I needed. +1rep. From what I have found on other boards and my searches on the web, it could be my ISP. It looks like a lot of them have a secret limit of how much you can download. I am thinking I might have hit that limit. I really don't download very much, but this last month I downloaded a few ISO(3 or 4), nothing crazy.

I will try the torrent method and see if I get any further. I will report back.

Edit - It won't let me rep you. It says I repped you too much already :D Next time then. Thanks.
