My m1210 is taking about 2-4 min. to boot Ubuntu FF, latest build.

Anyone else getting this issue? I am booting Vista, Ubuntu through Grub, and have MediaDirect loaded too.

I can post logs and such on Sunday if it helps!

I've found (on my 6400) that FF boot times are less than Edgy. Logs would probably help.

I'm having stability problems with Feisty and Edgy; whether running KDE or Beryl, Kubuntu's interface just freezes, leaving me with no alternative but to reboot manually.

There is a bug in Feisty's boot process where it tries to load several network interfaces that most users are unlikely to ever use. To open the configuration file, type this command:

    sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces

And change the text to this:

    auto lo
    iface lo inet loopback

    #auto eth0
    #iface eth0 inet dhcp

    #auto eth1
    #iface eth1 inet dhcp

    #auto eth2
    #iface eth2 inet dhcp

    #auto ath0
    #iface ath0 inet dhcp

    #auto wlan0
    #iface wlan0 inet dhcp

Basically by adding # you are changing the text from an instruction to a comment for programmers reading the code.

I found on mine that just using the hotkey combo to disable the wireless device during boot (you can re-enable it as soon as X is up) is an easy way to avoid the long boot time.

This will do the trick. It's a problem in Ubuntu in general, not just Feisty. I've been having the same issue since Dapper. It cut my boot time by over 75% I would say. It also does the same thing as disabling your wireless on boot, it's just automatic.

Except this way I won't have to manually power on my wireless card when the OS is up and running? I'd rather have something I can just turn on and forget than having to enable the card each time.

Yes, just comment out the lines as above, and you will be fine. It doesn't change. Your boot times will probably get closer to 30 seconds to a minute depending on your hardware.

    Awesome! Thanks!

I expected lower boot times with a 1.83 Core Duo and 2GB of ram, so hopefully this will get me to my target.

    Thanks again :D
