Hi, is there any program like Start Menu Search for Linux? Say, in my applications menu for Ubuntu? I like Ubuntu's Search, but Vista's is much more convenient.

No idea. I always know where everything is so I never use search.
If the irony isn't troubling, you could use the search function in synaptic to search for a search program.

look for nautilus, beagle, gnome-search-tool, etc. you should be able to rig something up in the popup menu. i find it more convenient and faster to use 'find' from the command line as i can pipe commands to it. at the least, updatedb/locate works really well for general searching.

hi, ofcourse there is
you just open menu, type what you want and it filters results just like vista
Kde Kicker / Kickoff Menu (sabayon linux / linux mint kde have this out of the box)
Gnome Slab Menu (linux mint / opensuse have this out of the box)
-
I love the mint menu for that purpose. Its the best one. Download it from here
http://www.linuxmint.com/repository/
-
Ah. Very nice. I'll have to check those out.
-
Don't confuse this, its not something linux mint created. Its just linux mints's use of the slab menu.
However you can install this customized menu on any distro (using gnome) using prol91's link -
Yes, your right. sorry for any confusion
-
actually i dont know if im right lol, as it states "a slab like menu"
-
openSUSE also has the KDE slab menu.
Anything like Vista's Start Menu search for Linux?
