Some just want a great OS. I love the stability and security Linux offers. Plus it gives me an almost limitless capability to tweek the OS to my wants and needs.

Some are, some aren't. Like others have said, it applys to other OS's as well. But I will say that people who are deeply into Unix/Linux are usually people who love to learn new things about computers/programming/systems and are usually very knowledgeable. I think the term hacker has been overused and misused a lot recently. I am a programmer but a hacker maybe maybe not, depends on your definition?

I would say linux users are more likely to be. Windows is usually the average person and gamers, Mac is artists, linux is hardcore geeks.

It's good, the ideas are a little stale these days IMHO. Still a good read, it was a great read a few years ago. Pick it up used ;)
