Im quite new on linux so installing whireles drivers on linux is just above my abilities.
I have asus c90s with intel 4965AGN card and intel has only source code with some instructions that i don't understand here http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...FullName=Linux*&lang=eng&strOSs=39&submit=Go! .
If it just were easy as installing other programs i maybe could do it.
So i need some help here.

I am getting closer than you -

What would the steps be?
Obviously getting the drivers... but how did you get it?

REP ME BABY! -
There are two ways of getting wifi HW to work in Linux. One is to use a loader program to load the Windows driver. NDISwrapper is an open source version of just such a program. Driverloader is a commercial version of a program that essentially does the same thing. (My preference is to always support the open source project where possible)
While this is sometimes all one has to get their WiFi hardware working under Linux, in my opinion, it's not as good as using a linux driver written for the card. Both Broadcom and Atheros have open source driver efforts. For the Broadcom 43x cards it's hosted here. For the Atheros cards it's hosted here.
Here's a post from someone getting the Broadcom WiFi card to work with their HP DV6226US under Ubuntu linux, using this post from the Ubuntu forums. This is a method using the bcm43x open source Broadcom driver.
Since the problem with the Atheros AR5008X chipset is that it's so new, users wanting to get this WiFi working under Linux are being currently forced to use the most latest version of the Atheros drivers. That's the reason for the pointing to the Subversion (SVN) repository of the Atheros open source driver. The good thing is that since this is the WiFi chipsets used on newer MacBooks, there is a good post on how to compile and install the newest version of this driver, posted here. Hopefully the Atheros project will support this chipset in their mainstream release soon, and it will be as easily supportable as older chipsets. You can always check to see what their current driver release supports by looking here. In the meantime, you need to be on the cutting edge to get native Linux driver support for this HW.
Good Luck. -
Basically you mean this post ?
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=185174
I am trying to do this... but I find it confusing... it says I need UBUNTU DAPPER... wth is that?
Thank you I am looking at the bcm43xx its not 43x
BUT the linuxwireless.org is down... my god... why does this have to be so complicated!?!?!? lol
Any automatic thing to do this? Any help? -
Thanks for you help.
On windows you just run .exe and you have driver installed.
On linux you have to do this most complicated stuff to install driver.
...of course this is just linux beginners view. -
But I want to stay a beginner... I don't wanna become a nerdmaking my own programs... and ...boohoo
I will try stuff and continue until I find a way... -
If you're using a relatively recent Ubuntu install, it's likely you're using the "G" version, which is codenamed Gutsy Gibbon. It may be useful for you to note that this blog post indicates this person has created an automated process of downloading, compiling, installing and then loading the bcm43xx drivers, for you. It may be what you're looking for.
Sorry I don't know more about doing this under Ubuntu, I use Gentoo, which has a completely different process for doing the same thing. -
I just bought a new Hitachi 5K250 and im installing vista
I still have the "old" seagate momentus 5400.2 120gb with linux on it... couldnt instal vista anymore on it... thats why I had problems with the Ubuntu...
But I guess im back with Vista for now... going to buy some RAM on newegg tomorow... and then I should be good for a while... ill just pop in the RAM and this HDD I just bought into my new m15x once I get it
Base config m15x + 8800m gtx + some other options = $2100-$2300 ... HDD and RAM ill just swap
