    Hey,

I'm trying to decide whether to get the Asus g1s or a Macbook Pro. I would rather get the Asus and put linux on it, but I'm worried that not all of the features would work properly. Things like wireless, bluetooth and the hdmi port are important to me. Has anyone with a Asus g1s tried putting linux on it and is there anything that doesn't work properly?

    Thanks

The G1S has the 4965 wireless chipset I believe, which should work. Almost all bluetooth chips are supported as well. HDMI, that probably will work if you have the NVIDIA driver working correctly, and then configure X to use multiple displays properly. HDMI as far as HDCP is concerned will almost certainly never work.

What you normally run into problems with are the special functions, things like the media control buttons and such.

Consider pm'ing one1sock and asking him what happens if he boots with a Ubuntu CD in it.

Thanks for the reply. I don't care about HDCP as long as I can get the actual port working for multiple monitors. Seems like everything important should work.

I know the G1P was based on the earlier A6 chassis, which was very well supported under linux. Assuming the G1S is based on the new F3 chassis, it shouldn't be a problem either.

I've seen the F3Jv running linux with everything working, including card reader and webcam. :)
