I tried installing Avant Window Navigator dock with this tutorial
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Install-AWN-on-Hardy-Heron-82611.shtml
for my Ubuntu 8.04...but when I click on the applications menu => avant windows navigator, it just opens up a box for a quarter of a second on the top left of the screen, it doesn't open up a dock or anything. I don't know what I did wrong. I followed the tutorials instructions step by step.
Any ideas?
Thanks for the hellp

Why didnt you just do this.
Go to a terminal and type:
Code:sudo apt-get install avant-window-navigator

Isn't awn already in the repository?
-
Yes it is....

works fine with me.. Though some applets are still buggy and not functioning. Not as configurable, I feel, than Cairo-Dock, but much more stable.

I got it figured out, all I had to do was apply desktop effects, then it showed up.
Thanks for the help guys. -
That's right, AWN needs desktop composition to work. I had assumed you had it on already, I'll make note of this.
