    Battery life with MINT 4.0 and IBM x31

    ok...i used to notice that when it had XP installed on it....with wifi on but screen brightness at lowest..the battery used to last 4-6hrs...

    with wifi off too...was 5-7hrs

    but now its got MINT 4.0 on it...the battery gets drained MUCH MUCH quicker.

    any ideas as to why that is?

    It's common to get less battery life in linux...but depends what is much much quicker...

    This is kinda "Normal". But you still need to check your setup. Mint, as well as Ubuntu always adopt the speed steps from BIOS. Mine always get down to 800MHz whenever OS has less task to do. However, when you open the browser, OpenOffice Word, it will quickly bump up to maximum speed.

    The other thing I notice is the GPU speed. Mine always put GPU into full blast, which makes worse than CPU.

    One thing I found out is that Linux save more power when you watch DVD or even 720P HD. It always set itself to lowest speed.
