I've noticed that they are merging beryl and compiz. But they say beryl is still supported yet their wiki is down thus making it impossible to know what kind of drivers to install to run beryl correctly.

So far after finally being able to install ubuntu 7.04 I've been wanting to try to get beryl working. I did all the updates from the notification and went over to add remove programs to try to get the package. After installing, it didn't work so I mess around a bit but I guess I'm missing some kinda of AIGLX driver. Every time I try to start it up the screen goes completely white and doesn't change back.

So should I just forget about getting it to work now? They picked a good time to mess around with things, I was hopping to get my Linux install working properly before school starts but I guess thats a pipe dream. Maybe I should of upgraded to Home Premium after all, since it seems like I'm gonna be stuck with windows.

I guess I'll try that, I didn't even think that was stable yet.

edit: I went to the built in "desktop effects" and it also just brings up white boxes.

I think that happened to me before. I also thought "What's this option do?" and then things didn't go so well. So I uninstalled beryl, copied in a default xorg.conf file, and started over.

If you don't see any title bars, you may wish to edit your xorg.conf file, specifically the DefaultDepth to 24 instead of the 16. If you want to delete your beryl settings completely, go to your home folder and press Ctrl+H (for Show Hidden Files) and then delete the .beryl folder.

I hope this works, but it's been a while since I had this problem, so this method may or may not work. I'm also still a newbie, and these are the only things I remember from my similar experience.
