Anyone know of other options besides the proprietary drivers from ATI. I have beryl running but resizing windows and opening programs lags big time. I've tried the radeon drivers but they don't work with my card. Is anyone else in this forum using beryl/having issues with it?

Have you used the frlgx drivers? I had it working well on the x1300..

Try using the ati open source drivers. If you can manage to get them working, they are pretty decent with beryl. What distro are you using? Chances are there are packages or docs on how to get these drivers installed.

What do you mean 'lags big time'? Do programs take a while to open up, or once open, do they slow down? I know the latest version of aMSN is a laggy little piece of poo on my machine, but it is not Beryl's fault. Beryl runs perfectly on my X1400.

Could you possible share your xorg.conf? Maximizing and resizing windows lags, other than that everything is good :)

I don't think my xorg.conf will help you, if the fglrx drivers are running, they are running. Besides, I don't use Beryl anymore, I'm running OpenGL programs so Beryl makes them run slow.

I just followed the Ubuntu wiki instructions and installed fglrx from the repos.

the x1600 will ONLY work under fglrx
I have zero issues with these drivers and this card.
For Beryl to work properly with fglrx you have to install xserver-xgl, are you running that?

Also, make sure that your DRI section looks like this, and that you have Composite disabled:

    Code:
    Section "DRI"
            Mode 0666
    EndSection

    Section "Extensions"
            Option "Composite" "Disable"
            Option "Composite" "0"
    EndSection
I used this guide to get it up and running... skip the section on the open source driver and scroll down to the alternate fglrx section.
