Hi everyone,
I am going to build a MSI barebones laptop this week and was wondering what the best mini PCIe Wifi card is for Linux. I am looking for something that is stable unlike my old laptop's Intel wireless.
Thanks![]()

My Intel 4965 has been stable in both Windows and Linux (Fedora and Ubuntu). FWIW...

as far as gaming goes is linux any faster than vista or windows 7?

I'd vote for an Atheros chip. I have two in my Thinkpad, and they work great.

There are different cards with Atheros chip(s). The differences are in the power and (as a consequence) sensibility and connectivity distance. Afaik, the power can be up to 500 mW vs. the more common ones with 100mW (Intel's are below 50mW, I guees). One should take ones priorities into account when choosing the miniPCI wifi card.

The wikipedia page says only Atheros and Realtek have true open source drivers. Anyone have experience with Realtek wifi?
Thanks -
i've installed intel 5300 on to my newly built ms-1722.. with vista and opensuse 11.1 installed. so far opensuse detected intel 5300 upon installation.... so far my problem is trying to make the sound work opensuse detected it but there is no sound coming out of the speakers... anyone has this problem?
