Since I don't have any bootable cd's laying around with which to install linux on my new laptop, I'm trying to boot off a usb stick. I made the stick bootable, pulled the ubuntu iso into the usb stick, and set my laptop to boot off the stick.
Do I need to rename the iso to anything, or do I need to do anything other than making the stick bootable and putting the ubuntu iso on the stick to boot up the installer?

I've not played around with this much but this site might help:

That's the site I've been using, but it seems the only thing I can find is how to boot and run off a usb stick, not how to simply install off the stick and run off my computer.

I hope others follow in Arch's footsteps, they've recently started to provide .img files for all their releases. All it takes is a simple 'dd if=*.img of=/dev/sdX' -
not at all, i just burn to my stick as i would to a cd, i boot puppy and mint this way.
