I have just bought an Aspire 9250, it has a Broadcom wifi card, can any on suggest and Intel card, ( as they are more compatible with Linux), to replace it with, and where to purchase such a card.
Although I know my way around desktop hardware, I have no idea about laptop hardware, so any help would be appreciated.
    I am in the UK.

Why don't you try a eg. Ubuntu 10.10 live CD to check if your current Broadcom chip works? I currently have a Intel 6300 wlan card which is quite good but sadly this time Intel and/or Kernel development teams messed up:

I can't use n-only modes with my notebook and have to revert back to 54Mbit/s only. So Intel is not always the better choice. So I would just check before looking for other cards. If your notebook is the 5920G there should be also modells with the Intel 4965AGN card. I guess (not really sure) that you could get one of those and put them in.

It should work, at least with restricted drivers.

Have you tried manually compiling the drivers and installing yourself??

I don't use Ubuntu so i don't know much about it but the process is roughly the same for any Linux derivative.

I used to have Dell 1505 (broadcom 4328), and it connects to my N only AP just fine.

I just realized I went off topic :(

    @ OP
Check if Acer laptops whitelist wireless cards.

Anyways, the most easiest to install is the intel wifi link 1000 and 6000 series.

Acer doesn't pull any of that crap like HP does. Any wireless card will work in an Acer, as long as it's the same PCI-e style (mini, half-mini).

In which case, if the OP still is eying an Intel card, I say look at the 6200 or 6300. Atheros, Broadcom, and Intel cards will all work with Ubuntu, with restricted drivers.
