Running Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10:
My cpu usage averages 40-60% on both cores even on idle on my Asus M50sv. When I turn the wireless switch to the off position, the cpu usage turns to normal usage, ranging from 0-20% on no more than 1 core at a time. I suspect that the problem is the driver for the wireless, caused by ndiswrapper, because when I uninstall the windows driver and restart, my cpu levels are back to normal.
I have the Intel PRO/Wireless 4965 AG/N internal wireless card, and am not sure what my next step is.

Why are you using ndiswrapper in the first place?
The Intel 4965 AGN drivers are built into the native Ubuntu kernel - I have the same card myself. It *should* work out of the box. -
Seconded. ndiswrapper isn't needed for Intel wireless. Intel is actually one of the most open-source friendly hardware manufacturers out there. Their wireless cards are all well supported, and even though they're slow, their GPUs are quite well supported as well.

NO ndiswrapper in Ubuntu needed...for a long time with that card

I thought so... I downloaded the "ultimate edition 2.0" of ubuntu, maybe thats my problem, I went into look at the network components in terminal and it said my 4965 was "unmanaged" or something like that and couldnt figure out how to get it to work, thus reverting back to the cpu unfriendly method of using ndiswrapper.
So, if anyone could tell me how to get this thing working I'd be highly greatful.
Thanks for you guys' replies -

The "ultimate edition" just adds random, mostly useless, extras.

Yeah, toss out that "Ultimate" edition. Also, you can use Intel's powertop program to check out power usage on your computer. It's in the Ubuntu repos.

Appreciate the suggestions everyone, after trying out 2 versions of the Ultimate edition ( which I liked as a linux n00b b/c of pre-installed extras, themes, other useless "bling" etc.) I decided to install a fresh empty copy of Ubuntu, we will see how that goes, installing everything will be a learning experience. I think all the pre installed junk was creating serious conflicts, first no network, then tried a new distro of the Ultimate Edition only to have intermittent freezes and network drops.
