Right now, my CPU keeps staying at 2.4ghz (across all four cores) on idle, which is killing my battery. Any way for me to downscale the CPU to 800mhz on idle and only bump up the frequency when needed? Windows does this automatically under "Balanced" mode. I heard i can use CPUFreq to do this, any help?

How are you determining what the clock speed is? With my Haswell, I find that even with the governor set to powersave, my CPU generally reports 2.4GHz all the time.

With Haswell, it seems to me, that cpu frequency is less important than the C6 and C7 power saving states. You can use i7z to see what the frequency is, and what percentage of time each core is staying in each power save state.

Yes, please post your CPU model and distro, otherwise we don't know what you're working with! ;)

On new Intel platforms, the standard CPU governor is replaced by Intel's own pstate driver by default.
