    Can I do this?

Currently I have an HP 8470p
    i7, ATI 7570m, 12GB RAM.

I am running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
No real issues. Installed well. It does run a little hot though...

What I would like to do:
    mSATA: Ubuntu
    Normal HDD: Windows

Dual boot (choose every time you start the computer.

Ideally I would like to leave all my music on the HDD and run Ubuntu on my mSATA. If there is no easy way to do it I would get an SDXC card and put all my media on there.

Does this work they way I think it would?

Sure. Once you install Ubuntu, grub should detect the Windows partition and attempt to add it to the boot menu.

Okay, I did not know if the booting to an mSATA would be BIOS dependent or something strange.

Nope, it should work like any other HD. Have fun.

I'm using a msata drive for my Linux install now and it works great, no issues whatsoever!
