anyway... you will have to list out the hardware specs...
i believe that ubuntu can work with majority of cpus, but not some video gpu or wireless cards as well as some ethernet cards though... -

Why not try one of the Live distros like Ubuntu? Go to Ubuntu's site and download the ISO image. Burn the image to a disc AS AN IMAGE and then you have a live CD. Put the Cd in and reboot the machine and make sure it boots from the CD. Then you can play with Ubuntu Linux without changing anything on your machine.
