I recently installed Linux Mint 7 in my laptop and am so far very pleased with it. However, none of the Compiz effects work at all for some reason. I enable then in CompizConfig settings, but...well nothing happens.

    What could be the problem?

So you've installed Compiz? What do your desktop appearance settings show?

I have a Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller. Apparently Ubuntu blacklisted the card because Compiz causes video players to crash due to a bug in the video driver.

Solution for anyone who has the same problem: I found that adding the code SKIP_CHECKS=yes in the .config file for compiz will cause compiz to skip the blacklist checks and run with few errors.
