Hi guys,
I recently installed Linux Mint and everything seems to be going fine so far. However, I'm a bit confused on which firewall to choose - Firestarter ot Guarddog. Will they both give me equal protection.
Also, do both firewall's run autumatically when I start Linux? With firestarter, the taskbar icon only appears once I've manually started the program. With Guarddog, (I have to also manually start it) it always comes with a message "You do not have superuser priviledges.....", then starts the firewall and when I try to close is, nothing appears in the taskbar. Is it still running?
Btw, I have my router firewall turned on. Should this be enough protection?
Thanks,
Jam.

Yes it should be enough.

Oh....ok then
Another question...I can't seem to get WMA files to playback properly with the default media player. I think its called Totem? Quicktime files work fine however WMA do not.
And another question....was wondering whether I could use Vista's bootloader instead of GRUB. How could I do this? I've got nothing against GRUB, but would rather have a windows logo appear instead of a Linux Mint on boot (
), infact any.
Thanks, Jam. -
I've found two ways to configure the bootloader now. One is to use EasyBCD to get Vista's bootloader up and running. Or, edit GRUB using the easy way by using GrubEd - CLICKY.
I'm favouring GrubEd but don't know how to get it working. I've unzipped the folder but the commands given aren't working. I'm probably doing something wrong as I'm a 'proper' noob to the terminal and linux. Andbody help me into what I right exactly in the terminal?
Thanks, Jam. -
I'm not in Ubuntu right now so can't check, but to play those you have to go into synaptic and install mplayer if it's not, then install the 'dirty plugins' for movie files....can't remember the name....can someone chime in here? They will play, easily, just can't give you the exact files to install.

You'd best install "mplayer", "gmplayer" (graphical interface for mplayer) and "win32codecs". Everything you throw at it will work.
To make mplayer the default program to open WMA files in the future, right-click the wma file, and in properties choose "mplayer" from the list (if not listed, just type in "gmplayer" in the space provided), hit ok, and you're all set.
Cheers -
Never mind
