Very interesting. My only wonder is does it have hardware access to the GPU. I'd guess not, but I can always hope.

I'm gonna say no on GPU utilization. Qemu has been around for a while, and you can even use it on Edgy if you want. The really cool new stuff is the kernel-level virtualization (KVM) that's in kernel 2.6.20

Not sure, I've asked on the thread already because I know it mentions you can do it with just about any VM. That being the case, I know that VMware has hardware accelerated video and works pretty well for DX8 if you enable a hidden option. There are a number of google / youtube video's for VMware Fusion and VMware 3D where people are playing hardware accelerated games.

I also know if you read about some of the other more linux-centric virtualized technologies they are hardware level accessable, and I think I saw something in one of those links about using real drivers in the guest O/S which might atleast mean they are VERY close? unfortunatly I bought like the only Core2Duo without VT support, so I don't have ALL the cool stuff..

I'll be buying a system like the Sager NP9260 in June as a mega b-day to me gift so it won't really matter anymore what I want to do (Will push off purchase if NV8800 not available yet)

Would definitely open my ability to move over to Linux full-time since I wouldn't "feel" like I still had windows running. :D

Qemu could be interesting...and perhaps a step in the direction of brining PC games to Linux in a big way???

Not Qemu, it's just standard VT, this new KVM is where it's at.

Maybe WinXP is trying to phone home or something, and realises you're using a bridged (fake) NIC.

Or - it may just be that you need to set up your Qemu bridged sonnections properly, so WinXP CAN phone home correctly.

    Ahh, WGA hard at work.

It's more than likely trying to connect to the net to activate. Is this an OEM copy of Windows or an off-the-shelf copy? I've never had a problem with my Dell OEM copy.

It's a Retail copy of Pro. I had it for years. It's before any Service packs.

My Acer & my HP desktop Recovery disks would not install due to it not being the correct system. Is there a way around this? Or will I probably have the same problems?

I'm now looking up of how to Config QEMU.

I'm also looking for my Old windows ME disk. Maybe I'll have better luck with that.

EDIT: I Googled around and I think this(BELOW IN QUOTE) might work being it doesn't have service packs yet. I do have service packs on a disk, now I got to find how how to install it to the Windows on QEMU. Hopefully it's easy.

for me, windows xp is used for games, and ubuntu/osx for everything that is somewhat important...im slowing drifting away from gaming too...although i will never give up css in the near future.

it is still a pretty cool thing though

Yeah, Feisty still has some bugs to be worked out, like an xorg bug that prevents even the LiveCD from loading up on some Dell laptops with a "No screens found" message. :d

That's a Dell ACPI bug, not a Linux bug ;) Linux still has to work around their mis-design, though.

Yeah, I know. But it still irks me that the workaround was in every other release of Ubuntu but this one.

I still think VMware works a bit faster and better.
