Can Crunchbang Linux make use of debian repos/packages?

Does it come with compiz, or is compiz easily installable?

What version of Debian is Crunchbang 10 based on?

Crunchbang Linux is based on Debian Squeeze(Testing) and uses Debian Squeeze(Testing)'s repositories.

As for compiz, what's the point? Crunchbang is a lightweight distribution that uses openbox(or xfce). However it has integrated compositing with cairo-compmgr and xcompmgr.

All of this information is on Crunnchbang's website.

DexterM, not to be a jerk, but before you make another thread, try to find the info yourself, all of the most recent threads are yours. There was like 6 minutes between your last two threads. It's one thing to be curious and ask advice -- it's another to demand other people do your research for you and spam the forum. A large part of learning is being resourceful and learning how to find things on your own.

I'm not *demanding* anyone do research for me; but since people here already use Crunchbang (and other distros for other threads), I thought they would have the answers easily available, and these answers are not lengthy. If they feel generous and have time to post, awesome. if they dont post, its ok. Also, here people use a lot of different distros, hence my comparison threads.

Thomas, I knew that Crunchbang was based on debian, I did not know it actually used debian repos.

The last question was perhaps laziness on my part :p

It's not hard to find this, it's on the frontpage of the website.

Is this because Debian is trying to only include open source code in its kernel? Will Crunchbang include the propiatary stuff when Squeeze becomes stable?

I tried Crunchbang, I thought it ran VERY well on my netbook, FWIW. Good distro for older/slower hardware.

I run it on an old Compaq Presario x1000. Basically used as an HTPC. It really is a good distro, and it is Debian based, so the compatibility is their/available.

    Try it!
