Call me an idiot, but I have stuff on my laptop that I can't loose right now, but I also need the HDD space that my linux distro is taking up. Now before I just went and totally screwed up my boot volume, I was going to ask and make sure of the process. First I would just go to Windows Disk Management app, then delete the ubuntu partition, and expand the Windows one. Then upon reboot pop in the Win7 install disk and have it repair/rewrite the MBR? Or would I need to re-install grub after delete or something else?

I did what he did before and my windows didnt boot. the Grub was saying some sort of error .. I forgot.. I had to use the supergrubdisk and did something to it.. Which I also forgotten lol..

Before you do any of that consider this option:
1. When in Windows, download and install this free boot loader EasyBCD
2. Start EasyBCD and 'repair the bootloader'--windows will take over the MBR and allow you to boot directly into Windows.
3. Then you can do
4. In this way you wont suffer the problem Eugene91
BTW, what configuration do you have with Ubuntu and Windows--WUBI setup or independent partition? Which Windows are you using? The solution I have suggested will work for either setup and I have tested this on Vista and 7; not XP. -

ok, problem. I thought it would be as easy as what was said above. Now I have Ubuntu on a seperate partition. I've started from the Windows 7 installation disk and launched start-up repair, but it couldn't find a problem with my install. So, now when I reboot I get
grub loading
error
grub rescue>
I don't know that much about linux but I've tried this before on another machine, and at the time I tried just reinstalling GRUB but I don't really know that much about the Linux command line. -
