    Hi,
I have been on ubuntu for a few weeks and I am about ready to throw this laptop out the window.

I have 3 or 4gb memory depending on which extra chip I put in. 80gb drive.

The native resolution doesn't come up right, I have posted forever and tried it all, nothing works right. I know intel cards (from what I have read in forums are a nightmare), so what would you all suggest?

    I don't want a windoze clone...

I am thinking of the following, my goal is fast, "cutting/bleeding" edge - or as new as I can go all the time without having a down system...

Crunchbang - I know ubuntu based - but I can get my laptop working "ok" and this looks fast.

Sabayon - not terribly interested in this, looks nice but not sure

Linux mint - wasn't thrilled, I want something a little more different than windows.

    Chakra

    OpenSuse 11.1

Of those you mentioned, CrunchBang is pretty great, and the forum is good too.....it's novel, got a lot going for it fast.

You might look at Zenwalk......they do have a liveCD, but you can't install from that..

Yeh, a bit hairy to set up. Once you do it, you will get what(ever) you want.
    Excellent documentation and community.
Fast and bloat free: you decide what you put on, whatever else just won't keep leeching your system.
