I just spun up then installed this http://www.pclinuxos.com/ and it kicks a~~.
It seems I've switched over from XP and didn't evern know it happened. Everything loaded up automatically and I didn't have to install ANY drivers. My mom could've done this. Wireles incl.
I'm about to make some t shirts saying "..and why do you use Windows?"
Linux has just broken through the clouds and this is the #2 distro, I beleive, now. Wow, I had issues with Suse 10.1 and never used it and thought I'd give PCLOS a shot and I'm still in shock. One thing I prefer is Amarock to Winamp by a long shot. It all just makes sense.
I've also got mac OS86 on the ole E1405 but it's a challenge getting everything going...eg Intel wireless and Sigmatel audio though I just did get the 9200 aced and easily. The next Upchuck DVD (mac OS) will be something to watch for.

It's great when everything works from the start. I'm glad to hear that. But you mentioned installing Mac OS on a Dell? How has that worked?
-
uhm does MAC OS X work in pcs and general intel laptops?

You can get it running on the Inspirons, but if you have the Intel WiFi you can't use security, and only one processor core works properly. Still not worth it, IMHO.
Dell Inspiron and PCLinuxOS great fit!
