    Hi,
I have posted on ubuntu several times and can't get help. I want to just get a normal resolution and I can get that on my external monitor but not my laptop screen.

I have tried a ton of things, posted my xorg.conf file, tried adding modes using xrandr, update the nvidia drivers, etc. No luck!

I am using jaunty at the moment, any ideas or suggestions for a better "newbie" distro?

I want easy to use out of the box and speed is good. I like nice looking but don't care overly about going nuts with eye candy.

I have a similar machine and the way I set my resolution (in ubuntu would be):

    sudo nvidia-settings

...then save to your xorg.conf from the program.

set it there.....you do have nvidia-settings installed? you should if not get in synaptic
