I didn't see this here, so I thought I would let everyone know who wants to install Ubuntu on their Inspiron/Vostro without any extra steps.

    Direct2Dell article:

I haven't tried it out since I already have Linux installed, and they have only confirmed it works on the 1420, but I would think it would work on all of the others.

Now if they would also make Kubuntu available.

Good to know! I have a vostro 1500...I am rather waiting for the 7.10 release, since the 7.04 gave me a bunch of problems with the wireless and some other random issues..Hopefully it wil work flawlessly!

Kubuntu would be easy to install, just install the right desktop packages. Wish they had a 64bit version, anyone know if you can upgrade to 64bit from a 32bit?

From their version, very doubtful. I'm not sure if you can even do it from the official versions of Ubuntu/Kubuntu.
