I've seen a few posts about how this has fixed a bunch of minor problems some people had been having. Personally, it fixed the suspend/hibernate functions and the using of internal speakers on boot instead of the external ones if the jack was in when started. So, has it been better for you?
-
While it did fix some minor problems for me (unless it was just me being a more savvy Ubuntu user during this clean install/setup), I have HORRIBLE performance with Firefox. Not sure what the problem is. The program literally freezes while it's doing whatever it's doing.
-
Have you tried a different browser?
-
Most of them, yes. For example, my speakers and volume touchbar worked out of the box without me having to enable them manually.
However, I still have problems with flash (turns playing videos grey randomly or won't work at all) and my wireless needed some tweaking.
btw, can any of you enable the Atlantis and Snow features in Compiz? They just don't work on my laptop -
not yet...I booted back into Vista b/c I didn't have the time to mess b/c I didn't have to mess with it.
I'll try another and let you know. -

Well, my cell phone modem works!
Well, I'm sure it would work in 8.04, but 8.10 makes it easier. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
does wifi work out of the box now? i couldn't get mine set up at all in 8.04. have to use windows till wireless works out of the box.
-
On m1730 xps wireless worked out of the box. After some updates advanced graphics worked. Webcam worked out of the box... audio. Out of all the distros I tried in the last month it was definitely the most successful one. I never got the mic to work but I've just started with linux.
I ended up installing ubuntu 8.10 on an external usb hard drive... when I want to use it I simply plug it in and boot from USB -

It actually broke my Wifi. When my Acer Aspire One comes out of sleep wifi won't reconnect. I think I might go back to 8.04.
-
8.04 will still receives updates(backports too, but not recommended). After all, it's an LTS.
-
Yeah I am not too concerned about going backwards. There isn't a big incentive for me to move to 8.10, especially since it broke my Wifi.

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/rel...oesn't work after suspend with ath_pci driver -
Ibex solved two problems for me: High CPU usage and slow WiFi connection. But it makes me wonder why compiz works less responsively in this release...
-
=\ -
Same here lol.
Everthing's smoother. -
-
I noticed one thing just a little while ago, if Compiz is enabled and I try to watch a movie, it makes the movie flicker, turn it off though and its fine. I won't mark it down though since I don't care too much about effects, as well as its not a functionality crippling bug.

Tweaked your poll
8.04 works 100% for me, so there are no problems that 8.10 would fix... hehe
-
WIFI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Now to install my graphics and crossover and then counter strike source. That's all a computer needs. -
Good to hear that it's helped fix the standing of most people's problems and even some severe ones (standby/hibernate).
-
Finally, my Atheros 5007 BGN card works OOTB. Woohoo!
-
Yeah, 8.10 works with my INTEL card and provides me with sound out of the box. (MSI 1561) I feel at home with Ubuntu so I couldn't be happier right now.

Onwards to 9.04
-
The choice of answers for this poll is too simplistic. Intrepid fixed some problems but introduced others, including major ones, like Gnome not saving sessions properly anymore.
-
I can't suspend. Well, I can suspend alright...it just doesn't come back.
-
It fixed nothing for me...

Much smoother on all ends. I love the built in support for Atheros.
