When I tried it before, it was the one thing I missed enough to forsake it. I'm not talking about codecs or something that will play a file when I navigate to it, I want software to manage my expansive library

You could take a look at Banshee and Rythmbox.

It's just personal preference but I like Amarok as my music player.
While I'm a Gnome user/fan, I once fell in love with Amarok (KDE app.) and can't let go.
It really is an amazing program, comparable with iTunes which I used before and I have had an easy problem free transition.

Amarok never seemed to impress me, it didn't want to play my internet radio and I think it had problems with some video I had.
