So I'm backing up my computer via tar for the first time. This is the most tedius backup I've ever done. It's mostly because I can see what it's doing and keep noticing things I don't need taking a long time. My newest annoyance, UBUNTU HAS 4 THOUSAND PLACES IT PUTS TRASH!!@#!#!#!@#$!@#
So I had crossover installed with a steam folder. I unistalled all this a few days ago. It found itself in "/home/<username/.local/share/trash" I do not need this, so I stop raring. IT's taking forever to rar the folder and I don't want it anyways. I start the whole thing over, for probably the 15th time. What does it do? A bit further in this time it starts raring a nice little folder called trash-0.
!~#@!#!#
I just let it do it this time.
Then at the end it said "Exit delayed from previous errors"
There were no previous errors.
I'm glad I have a ghost image of this anyways. I just wanted to see how well this method works. My answer, !!@!$!@$. Never EVER backup with tar. The end.

linux doesn't, but Nautilus does.

I am so glad I did a ghost image before I tried that...
In the process of doing that, apparently I hosed my system. -
Don't use tar, use rsync. I use rsync to regularly back up my home directory, and I don't run into any issues. Then again, I'm using KDE, so I don't have to deal with GNOME and its idiocy.

Ghost is a liar. I store my important data on my external anyways, but now I have to reinstall. Ghost did not recognize my ext 3 partitions. Booting into a live disc to rescue the few files I didn't have backed up and reinstalling...now to start my hours of downloading software...
By trying to prevent data loss I have lost all my data. -
rm -r .Trash* too much for you? =P
-
it's not just .trash, which is really stupid
-
Also, I was able to recover my data...
Does linux have a never ending amount of trash folders...
