Hi, So i'm having this problem it seems i can't suspend to ram or harddrive in ubuntu 7.04. In Ubuntu it will go to suspend successfully however it will not wake up. The backlight to the screen will not even turn on. In Fedora 7 does not suspend/hibernate successfully instead it just hangs.

So my question is has anyone ever encountered such a problem on a similar laptop? encountered the problem at all?

Just to add, Linux use to be able to successfully sleep/hibernate my laptop no problem up until i had to send in my laptop for a motherboard replacement to dell. Is there something that dell could have done to screw something up?

In Ubuntu i am using kernel 2.6.20-16-generic (i was once able to sleep/hibernate with this kernel)

Well, I'm having this problem too. Just I've never gotten it to work under Linux.

As for your problem though, my guess would be that when Dell replaced your motherboard, it gave you a newer model or something, and that kernel version doesn't support it yet.

But forgive me if I'm totally off. I've only been using linux for 2 weeks!

I don't use Ubuntu's suspend function as it doesn't resume properly for me either; I read somewhere that considerable effort is being applied to improve Ubuntu in this area, so when Gutsy Gibbon comes out, we will hopefully have a resolution to these problems.

My hel-80 suspends and hibernates just fine, except when returning from hibernation my sound is garbled. I think I had to install another package off of synaptic to get it to work properly though.
