Hey, changed my order some so that I would have the Intel Pro wireless card since I heard its Linux friendly.
Was wondering, I wanted to start into Linux more, see how it is, or least have it installed to complete the mobile powerstation I wanna carry with me.
Ill have the ATI X1400 along with it.
Was basically wondering if you think Xandros 3.0 would be a good choice to start with and use for a OS as a dual boot?
I will be having MCE2005 and hoping Xandros as a optional boot. Not used to this too much.. done them before with Redhat, cept it didnt like my old laptop at the time.
Just checking. I know there is a Linux forum here, however, I am not sure it would be answered as well as people who are getting the 1505 in the dell forums and would prob have a better idea on whats up. =)

the ati x1400 doesn't do too well in linux.
driver support sucks.
as for the rest, you should be ok
although don't expect the wireless to just "work"
you'll have to make an effort in the terminal -
Xandros has a wifi section to make it easier on setup. It almost looks and feels like XP Pro to be honest.
Kinda worried about what you said on GFX card not being able to work. >.<
Is that just for anything unix or just certain distributes? -
ATI's linux track record isn't as good as nVidia's... until fairly recently their drivers were very poor. The good news is that ATI seems to be taking more of an interest in their linux drivers these days, so the X1K gpus are supported under linux... although I believe that nVidia still has the edge in performance and stability at this stage. Again, these drivers may be available via Xandros' repositories. -
Well Xandros 3.0 is good right...? I mean would anyone tell me strongly not to use it?
-
I can't offer you a personal opinion on Xandros as I've never used that particular distro, although I've seen some good reviews for it. With 200+ distros available, just trying them out would be a full time job.
I would also recommend you take a look at Ubuntu, it's a very popular distro and it's user forums are very helpful. -
Well Xandros has a free one last I checked. 2.0
3.0 was a ahem pay to use distro. However it claimes to be better. Havent checked yet on a update, which guess I should. -
Never tried Xandros. Couldn't tell you about it. Check out tuxmobil or linux on laptops and see if anyone has put linux on the laptop you plan to get.
Edit: Never mind. I just checked and neither site has any info for your laptop. Has it been released yet? -
Ok I learned this, Xandros 3.0 IS a good distros, If your a windows user coming to Linux for the 1st time etc, gives you Linux with a feel you reconize. Not crippled.
However, I also came across this!
http://www.pclinuxos.com/page.php?7
Which directly supports ATI itself. Also has current support staff..
Anyone know about this? Interesting part is.. you dl the iso and it can be bootable for testing and to see if you like it.. nice..
E1505, do they Dual Boot well? Thinking of installing Xandros 3.0.
