This has probably been asked before since I've heard that it's a common problem amongst laptops, but how would I go about enabling headjack sense on my notebook? My speaker work fine, but everytime I plug in headphones, Kubuntu fails to detect that they have been plugged in and continues blasting sound both out of the speakers and headphones, even though I want it to mute the speakers when the headphones are plugged in. I've tried every single muting/unmuting combination I could do with the Master, PCM, Headphone, Front Jacks, and other switches in KMixer, but all to no avail. Also did some messing around with the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base file, but nothing I did there fixed the problem. I even tried uninstalling alsa, and then installing the newest alsa-base, alsa-utils, and alsa-base packages from source to see if that would remedy the problem, but it didn't help. Attached are the outputs from running lsmod | grep snd and cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 in a terminal. The first line in the second file identifies my actual hardware soundcard, but I do know that alsa uses the Intel HDA driver for my sound. This whole issue isn't a hardware problem b/c the headphones are properly detected in XP and Vista  So, can anyone help me out? TIA

BTW, I'm running the 64-bit version of Kubuntu 7.10.

Have you tried experimenting with "model=" options for snd-hda-intel module? I use model=vaio on my FZ, but you will obviously want to try different options - 3stack, for example.

<edited> I copied it from Sabayon forum - you can try these.
    ALC883/888
    3stack-dig 3-jack with SPDIF I/O
    6stack-dig 6-jack digital with SPDIF I/O
    3stack-6ch 3-jack 6-channel
    3stack-6ch-dig 3-jack 6-channel with SPDIF I/O
6stack-dig-demo 6-jack digital for Intel demo board
acer Acer laptops (Travelmate 3012WTMi, Aspire 5600, etc)
    medion Medion Laptops
    targa-dig Targa/MSI
    targa-2ch-dig Targs/MSI with 2-channel
    laptop-eapd 3-jack with SPDIF I/O and EAPD (Clevo M540JE, M550JE)
    auto auto-config reading BIOS (default)
