Try using a PC partitioning program and set up a EXT2/EXT3 partition from Windows, then in Ubuntu, install to that partition without reformatting the hard disk in GParted.

What is the error? Back when I had RAID 0 on an ASUS G50V (Intel ICH7R), I wrote a guide for Ubuntu and you had to add the dmraid=true boot parameter by hitting F6 and ESC when you first get to the installer boot screen (after selecting your language). For 9.04 you had to use the alternate installer; I don't think that is true since 9.10. There is more info at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FakeRaidHowto#Ubuntu%209.10%20%28%20Karmic%20Koala%29

And if you don't need to dual boot into Windows, you should use the Linux Software RAID method, which doesn't require dmraid support. Here's the Ubuntu Installation instructions.
Good Luck..
