Is there a way to get FF3 to render font in the same way as it does in windows? because so far that is by biggest annoyance with Ubuntu...
-
what's the problem? Font too big?
-
yah :/ it makes some sites render very oddly and not how they're supposed to.

I'll assume you're in Ubuntu already. Try this: Preferences > Appearance > Fonts tab > Details > 96 dots per inch
And in FF3, Fonts tab > Advanced (under Fonts & Colours) > tick "Allow pages to choose own font" -
Already tried both of those without success...

Google for it. I have a similar problem and Dr Google solved it for me.

Fonts in Linux are terrible, especially for people who work in Vista. Fonts in Linux sucks! Period.
But there is solution to import XP and Vista fonts and use them.

Peace and enjoy.

Fonts in Linux aren't terrible... tsk tsk tsk.. You just don't know how to configure them to show at their best.

Fonts will never look identical to the fonts in Windows, however it may be the default font in Firefox that's making it appear different.
Go to Edit->Preferences->Content and change the default font to some other font. The default in Windows is Times New Roman. If you have access to a Windows machine, you can copy all of the Windows fonts including Times New Roman.
Here's how i usually copy fonts
- Open terminal
- cd "location of fonts" (eg "cd /media/FLASHDRIVE/fonts")
- sudo mkdir /usr/share/fonts/WinFonts
- sudo cp *.TTF /usr/share/fonts/WinFonts
- sudo cp *.ttf /usr/share/fonts/WinFonts
- cd /usr/share/fonts/
- sudo chmod -R 755 WinFonts/
You can specify a different numerical permission syntax if you wish.
This should copy all fonts over and set the permissions so you can access them.

darn you and your shorthand! I wanted Final Fantasy 3 fonts...

Install MS fonts, here is a guide I used to make OpenSuse look almost like Windows, and I guess the steps are more or less same for Ubuntu as well... Scroll down to see firefox settings, you might have to play around a little bit with anti aliasing and dpi to get it right.

Rather than use Windows fonts I think you just want better fonts that what it looks default right? I'm pretty sure I know what you mean. I've attached screenshots of how it looks before the change and how I changed them and how it looks after. This should make it look a lot better.

Woot! I'm famous again!

The screenshots have me in them. I think another screenshot a while ago had me in it as well, so it's "again"
You turned on Subpixel Smoothening and Full Hinting, right? -
