I am in Ubuntu 6.1. Whenever I try to change my screen brightness by pressing FN and then arrow key up or down, Ubuntu crashes and I have to login again. So right now I have no known way to change my screen brightness.

Some of the commands are working like volume but others are not such as scroll lock, which is FN + Num LK. Another one not working is disc eject.

If you go to system > Preferences > Keyboard shortcuts, you can fix them all up, except the disk eject thing.

I don't see any option for screen brightness though. Is there anyway to change the screen brightness without using Fn + arrow keys?

No, that's handled by the bios. Try flashing the motherboard bios, see if that fixes it.
