Anyone as found a way of binding certain keys to some functions. For example I have a FN+f8 that is supposed to increase volume. However on linux it does nothing. Anyone found a way of making those works or to bind them to something else?

Notebook Fn key bindings are normally tied to ACPI, so we'll need to know what notebook you're using. Fortunately, these bindings rarely change from model to model within a manufacturer and most manufacturers are supported.

There's a program called "xev" that will give you keycodes and such that X intercepts. See what happens when you press Fn+F8 in there, then you can use xmodmap to bind keycodes to X events and such.
