All I need to know is the fastest distro to use for my HP DV5220ca laptop
-
-
Ubuntu works great with the DV series . The fastest would be the one you compile specifically for your laptop. Try xubuntu.
-
The fastest distro pretty much period is Gentoo
-
I heard Gentoo is worth a try, and while I know my way around a computer I'm not quite ready to learn something completely wacky.
Is Sabayon Linux worth it? And if so, what version (for a 64bit proc.) -
If you're new to Linux, stay away from Arch, and further from Gentoo.
Linux distros are generally more hardware friendly than Windows -
How is it possible to compile something specifically for my laptop?
Anyways, im installing a 64bit copy of Kubuntu in a few hours, so I'll report back with any trouble -
If you don't know much about linux you can really ignore that forever, if you want.
There are two types of distros out there, compiled, like Gentoo, and binary, like Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, etc. Compilation involves taking the soruce code and compiling it with a compiler to match your laptop's hardware, huge speed benefit, but compiling can take hours for some programs.
