What's your favourite music/audio player in Linux? I've only tried a few but found one I liked - Banshee - but am curious to know what else is popular. Also curious if any cross-platform ones are popular - both my Windows favourite (WMP) and Banshee, which I wouldn't mind using on Windows, are Windows/Linux exclusive.

    edit: Poll added.

I'm a big fan of MPD with the Sonata front end, but I've had trouble getting it to work with PulseAudio in Ubuntu. So while it's my choice in Arch, I stick with Exaile in Ubuntu.

Edit: Hey! You're missing Exaile, and Listen, too.

I have used KDE over the last few years and like Amarok. I am just starting to use GNOME and I like Banshee so far with that.

I love Sonata, but it's interface is rather lacking. But it's just so stylish looking. Rhythmbox is really solid, sadly it's quite ugly. I've tried Amarok, but it's a bit too feature-ful. I guess I'm more of a minimalistic person.

I voted for amarok, I really like the number of features and settings. I have to admit I didn't really try anything else, yet.

I like RythmBox, over any of the Windows only media players I've tried out. I also like VLC Media Player, since you can amplify the audio, but usually I don't need it that high, but it's handy on laptop speakers(I usually use earbuds, and RythmBox). Not tried a lot.

I used MPD much - with ncmpc (that thing rocks!) for the console, and emphasis for the gui.
But in the last time I just stayed with mplayer - don't know, I only listen to online radios and whole CDs, so that works fine for me.

I've tried Exaile, but it was rather 'meh' for me. Since, if I wanted to, I could have just used the original program, Amarok

But if you're using a GTK based DE, you'll end up pulling a lot more libraries into memory if you use QT based applications. If it uses KDE libs, you're even worse off.

I understand that point, but there's not much between Exaile and Rhythmbox, for me. And I don't really like the fact that idea of Exaile was just a copy of Amarok for GTK. I guess i'm just more of a purist.. *shrugs*
