Hi all,
Here is a list of things on the SZ that I have working, and not. If anyone has any enlightening information then let me know. I have to admit that I'm quite worn out with this. I've been at it for over two weeks now. Phew.
I have followed instructions on
http://home.gagme.com/greg/linux/fc5-tips.php and on
http://home.gagme.com/greg/linux/fc5-tips.php and on
http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-8762/README/chapter-03.html and finally on, http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_5_installation_notes.html
Sadly, I'm stuck with WXP for the moment.
works:
touchpad
Stamina/Speed switch / Wireless On/Off switch - these are just h/w switchs so I don't think has anything to do with Linux, or needs to, but thought I'd meantion them anyway.
Intel gpx card
nvidia gpx card - but not properly. lots of screen corruption and colour mapping problems upon login. Usually solved by restarting X.
wireless (took 3 days to do this, and still has problems when I deactivate the wireless, because the default gateway is not removed. Have to do it manaully and then add the default route for the Ethernet card (eth0).
bluetooth
mouse USB
PCX multi card reader
NTFS read-only. Cannot write, but I'm not surprised as MS don't want anything other than Windows using NTFS...
doesn't work:
partial nvidia support: see above
S1/S2 and Fn keys. Appartently works with KDM, but not Gnome. INstalled sonypi rpm but no luck.
Suspend: goes into suspend but X never recovers. Black screen. Cntl-Alt # keys won't give me a prompt. reboot time
Ethernet: seldom recovers from suspend. device disappears from /dev!? reboot time.
mplayer cannot play anything other than mpgs. All else fail with no codec support, even though the mplayer sssential-20050412 codecs where put into /usr/local/lib/win32
sound - alsa driver won't work. installed several different versions,
alsa-driver-devel.i386 1.0.11-47.rhfc5.at installed
alsa-lib.i386 1.0.11-3.rc2.2 installed
alsa-lib-devel.i386 1.0.11-3.rc2.2 installed
alsa-utils.i386 1.0.11-4.rc2 installed
unknown
Sony Memory stick port - I don't have a stick to test with.
TPM access - never found driver
fingerprint scanner - never found driver
Felica port - no driver found, yet.
- If in doubt, go crying to the forum![]()

Update:
I got the fn key + E to work to eject the DVD.
See this page: http://juljas.net/linux/vaiofx240/sonykeyd.html
Note that where he says do a,
Create a /dev/sonypi special file:
# mknod /dev/sonypi c 10 63
Don't do it. Replace the command with: mknod /dev/sonypi c 10 250
The sound card is installed and recognised, but still no sound. -
Sound card now works, but only through the 3.5mm headphone jack.Main speakers are muted, and I cannot work out how to unmute them.
-
no problem with nvidia card
Fn and contrast works well too
Fedora Core 5 install - summary of what I got working, or not.
