First question: why isn't Firefox 3.5 released for Linux yet? I try to install 3.5 from Synaptic, and end up with this Shiretoko version, which appears to be 3.5.1, but with a different branding, icon, etc?![]()
Besides, Firefox 3.0 is installed additionally, to contribute to my confusion. Anything I could find hinted that "Shiretoko" is an alpha (beta?) release building up to 3.5, which is already available for Windows, and I would've thought Linux for sure?
Obviously, I'm confused.![]()
So I'd appreciate any enlightenment in that area; also, every time I happen to hit the top right corner of my touchpad, it seems to load the last tab I opened or something like that...? Anyways, my best guess after a bit of looking around was to try man synaptics and determining how to modify the xconf file or whatever to configure that. I take it that's not a Firefox-exclusive function?
TIA,

Firefox 3.5 was released for Linux before it was released for Windows. From what I can tell Shiretoko IS Firefox 3.5.1. In the arch linux repo at least, Firefox 3.5 "Shiretoko" has been made the official package. Additionally, the versioning system reports it as version 3.5.1.

As Archer said it was released for Linux before Windows. Ubuntu does not equal Linux. =\ You'll have to run some special command I forget to update to the latest Firefox, Google around for it. Rolling release distro's like Arch have it already.

Well, it makes sense to me that 3.5 would be released to Linux first, but I'm a bit thrown off by the labelling, and also by the co-existence of 3.0.
And I realize that Ubuntu doesn't equal Linux, but it is a subset of Linux, and a pretty mainstream distro. At any rate, I stand somewhat disoriented.
Oh well, it works. -
It's here, in case anyone else comes across this thread. -

here's a method methinks:
http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2009/07/15/install-firefox-35-in-ubuntu-904-using-ubuntuzilla/
If you have 'key' issue, here's the fix:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1209724
this way you don't have to hack any menus. -
Thanks! -

Maybe I'll just stick with Shiretoko, since it seems to work fine. I tried installing Ubuntuzilla, and it set up Firefox 3.0.13, then ran the 3.5.2 installer, and said it was successful. However, when I ran it, it wouldn't load any pages, no doubt due to the long list of errors I got when I tried running it in the terminal:

Damn. I'm sure the installer said AMD64 (the file name is ubuntuzilla-4.7.1-0ubuntu1-amd64.deb, but it's nice to know what the problem is.
I wonder if maybe... hmm. I dunno. -
Archer the more you talk Arch the more i want to try it, but boy it was a mess getting raid 0 working on the G50Vt, but I did notice arch linux does support dmraid also. Hmm

Hey,
just in case, I think you can fix the touchpad issue by changing a simple firefox config on about:config, as follows from Arch wiki:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Synaptics#Firefox_and_special_touchpad_events
It's pretty simple, I have had this problem in the past -
