For the past month or so firefox has been crashing daily on my linux box, distro SLED 10.
Setting: Around 100 or so tabs open, virtual memory 1GB+, after running for a few hours, a blank window automatically appears out of nowhwere. If I close it, firefox crashes, here is what the console says before I close the window:
And when I close the window:Code:(Gecko:24097): Gdk-WARNING **: GdkWindow 0x37025d7 unexpectedly destroyed (Gecko:24097): Gdk-WARNING **: GdkWindow 0x37025cc unexpectedly destroyed (Gecko:24097): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_set_user_data: assertion `window != NULL' failed (Gecko:24097): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_set_back_pixmap: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed (Gecko:24097): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_set_data: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed (Gecko:24097): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_set_data: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed (Gecko:24097): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_resize: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed (Gecko:24097): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_show_unraised: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed (Gecko:24097): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_move_resize: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed (Gecko:24097): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_move_resize: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed
if I dont close the window, sometimes it automatically closes (without firefox crashing), but the appearance of the blank window is like a timer, firefox does not stay on for long. Sometimes it itself crashes. Sometimes I click on a link and the link opens in a new small window with no adress panel, which does not behave right, and then I'm forced to close it.Code:(Gecko:24097): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_move_resize: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed Gecko: Fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server :0.0.
Any fix for this ?

Can you run in safe mode to see if it's not add-on related? Which version of ff are you using?
-
Yeah, this is kind of a time at which fixing Firefox 2 problems would be pointless

Unfortunately I cant run firefox 3, it complains about some library being old (SLED is 2 years old), and unfortunately my attempt to upgrade the libarary did not go well. -

I ran with all addons disabled. It became more unstable. Crashed twice in 1 hour.
Here is the console output the first time (I'm only showing a couple of lines of the flash warnings, in reality
the warning is repeated many times).:
Code:Flash Player: Warning: environment variable G_FILENAME_ENCODING is set and is not UTF-8 Flash Player: Warning: environment variable G_FILENAME_ENCODING is set and is not UTF-8 ./run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 16942 Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"}
The second time:
Code:Flash Player: Warning: environment variable G_FILENAME_ENCODING is set and is not UTF-8 Flash Player: Warning: environment variable G_FILENAME_ENCODING is set and is not UTF-8 Flash Player: Warning: environment variable G_FILENAME_ENCODING is set and is not UTF-8 ./run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 17037 Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"}

Hi.
Firefox 2.0 use to crash a 100 times a day for me, not exaggerating.
Then i moved to 3.0 beta, everything was great, and then RC1, started crashing again about 20 times a day.
Now i am using RC2 and everything is great again!

I installed firefox 3, with new GTK2 library etc:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=262722
Unfortunately, I am still getting those blank windows poppups after a day, and when I close one firefox crashes.
It could not be a RAM problem could it ? The system otherwise is rock solid, runs months on 24/7, with no reboot required.
