Okay, the graphics team needs to be shot...in the face.
Its browner then ever before, out of all the colors that make me productive, brown just isn't it.
At least Vista, KDE and other distros have a pleasing theme which ATTRACTS users....this just looks like... well Ibex dung.
Ive always hated the general direction Ubuntu takes for its themes, but this just tops it all....EVERYTHING is brown, even the text field backgrounds.
I understand they want to test dark themes so they get more priority and bugs fixed this way, but there are far better looking dark themes around.

The Fire Snake Notebook Virtuoso
I love Ubuntu and the variants and even don't mind the colors in the theme, but I wish they would get rid of the dumb animal names for the releases. Just 8.10 would suffice. Intrepid Ibex... lol
-
Damn that's ugly......
-
It's alright. I like how it is darker, but it is brown. Not really that cool of a color to be looking at all the time. I think if Kubuntu 8.10 has KDE 4.1 I will go with them next time.
-
Good grief! Someone should do the humane thing and put that color scheme out of its misery by sending it to the great bit bucket in the sky.
Then someone should do the other humane thing and finance a visit to the optician for the designers of that color scheme. -
i was waiting for screenshots for ages, and wtf happened to the supposed 'complete gui remap'? I confess myself, dissapointed.

I was about to call you guys haters for not giving it a chance but then i saw the colors and i hate them too. If they just stick with what they have but offer different colors (such as blue) they'll be fine.
-
Dude...I love the color scheme. And that default wallpaper is sweet.
Brown = sophistication. -
I'm more of a blue lover, so i just want them to officially support new theme colors. This is an alpha though so it may change for the better by final.

I'm back in Ubuntu from Kubuntu.....I feel like a brown pair of shoes in world full of tuxedos....

+1 for the 'bird....love those quick easy tips ! -
They should take some tips from the studio theme. -
-
Holy crap, that is fugly.
-
Hey, hey, come on now people, it doesn't look all that bad... actually looks pretty cool if you asked me
Definitely different from the past releases, which all looked the same if you asked me (seriously: did feisty look any different from gutsy? did gutsy look significantly different from hardy? no!)
-
Alright for everyone complaining about the color, I'm pretty sure thats not permanent. Apparently what's going on is that the dev's decided to just throw together a dark theme to help bug test. I'm sure alot of you guys have used dark themes and noticed how they can be buggy frequently with color's messing up and what not. That's what this is for, its so that bugs in dark themes in general can be found and fixed. I would link to the source of where I'm getting my information but I can't remember where exactly I read this...
-
Don't get me wrong. Different can be fine if it does not turn into an assault on my optic nerves. -
-
Ubuntu's been crying with its lame colours since days of yore, admittedly it has done a handsome job of easing the linux pain but come on don't be an eyesore!(more like gouging out eyes with the ****ty brown colour!)
Going by the current trend, I think for the recalcitrant colour scheme it should've been aptly named "The Idiot Ibex".
-
Edit: Nevermind, it is Avant Window Manager -
Well, I going to take it one step further and say it would be nice if the Gnome people made some bold, new, changes
Looked the same for too long.
-
wow. for you people that don't like brown, you do realize with murrine and the new rgba support being pushed out for intrepid ibex, you should actually complain about the "transparent" brown. true transparency with widgets. and you guys are complaining about the color. lmao. oh and you can change the color if you guys didn't know that either.
-
Hey, at least it is fully customizable.
-
Wow... Just wow. That has to be the ugliest I've seen.
-
I know, eh?
On the other hand, any distro can be changed beyond recognition, as someone above me duly pointed out. I'll still use Ibex for its features, but the first thing I'll ever do is change the theme. -
Yep, change it. If it was as integrated as Aero is to Vista, you'd see Slackware on my machine in no time flat.
-
@Calvin-- two links to turn your brown to blue:

Enjoy!
I have to agree. The new theme is a load of Ibex ****. I hope they change it. The only GUI change I found where these, 1) the administration tab was placed above the preferences tab, and (wait for it) b) my sound quit working.
Needless to say, it was a short trial run. Maybe it will get better!!!??? -
Thanks for the links but i already know about them. I use my own home-made theme Coolman which is a fusion of 2 other themes.
-
Bad color sense.
-
Forget the brown, somebody ought ta be bullwhipped for that grey! lol
-
I think someone has said it already but remember that this is only to test black themes guys. This isn't permanent at all.
-
I know they are sticking with the African Safari theme but I think they are going a bit too far with those screenshots. Making brown look cool is tough thing to do
First look at Ubuntu 8.10 : Intrepid Ibex
