I like to open 70-100 tabs open in firefox. Over the past few months I noticed that firefox was always taking up 30-50% cpu. Always. 24/7.
I could not figure out what the problem was. So yesterday, I installed flashblock, and lo and behold, CPU consmption dropped to under 10%, memory usage also decreased by about 20%. So it was the flash !!
I was not intentionally opening up flash widgets; but apparently websites like to use flash like crazy.

Yea flash is a real system hog, especially on linux systems. Thanks for mentioning the add on.
The really need to improve the linux version of firefox, hopefully version 3 will be better. -
Aside from being demanding, flash rarely works out of the box; at least for the distros I've used. Its also difficult to get it working.

I also use NoScript for those annoying javascript pop-ups that firefox won't block even if configured to to so.
Flash was slowing down my compu !!
