    Bummer because I'm trying to resolve some samba permissions problem... But it's pretty neat to have.

    What's the samba problem? Here's the (insecure! but permissive) template I use for my LAN:
    Code:
    [public]
       comment = public
       read only = no
       locking = no
       path = /home/groceries/Public
       guest ok = yes
       browseable = yes
       writeable = yes
       create mask = 777
       directory mask = 777
       public = yes

    I had copied over a folder from a old drive and created a bunch of new one on my zfs vdrive. I don't know how that happened but every single one of the new folder could only be modified by root. I fixed that using the included file manager. Now my only problem is downgrading the machine a bit, having a E3300 OC'd to 3ghz and a 9800 Gt seems seriously overkill... Do you have Gigabit Ethernet? How are you transfer speeds?

    It could be your directory or create mask doing that.

    I have gigabit, but right now I'm on wireless so I can't give you a number offhand for my samba transfers... it's never been an issue for me though.

    It's not an issue now here either, but I was wondering if it would be worth it getting a gigabit router since the 7-9MB/s are not really cutting it at the moment.

    Yeah go for it, you can get a good gigabit switch for $25, maybe a little more if you want jumbo frames.
