HELP !!!!( okay no more caps or !

If I don't fix this problem , the PC goes back to the storein three hours.![]()
First the Ubunto Dapper Dan CD wouldn't run in my HP dv6105us.
I tried to install the SLED 10 DVD from the Linux Format magazine.
The installation had a problem and quit running. There was an errror saying an fstab line was a problem. I chose the ignore option. The error was:
debugfs /sys/kernel/debugfs noauto 0 0
The installation continued to go poorly, and hung.
Next, I rebooted in Windows and it worked, and the hard drive looks much smaller than it used to be. So the partitioning looked good (to my eyes) ,(Should I be seeing the Linux partition in Windows?)
I rebooted to the SLED DVD, and ran the repair option. All checked out ok until it came to checking the fstab line again.
I also then got a boot loader error. The file /etc/sysconfig/kermel could not be found.
What do I do now?
I also have a CD I downloaded of the Kubuntu alternate install for the 64 bit machine. I wonder if it can fix the problems? Heck, I'll go ahead andd try it meanwhile. The worst that can happen is the PC goes back without Windows working, either.

Mary luver of plants (Do U eat them?), Are you familar with partitioning for Dual Booting on the same HD, or is this 1st attempt? M$ will show linux Parts as a space but Unknown. HD size does not change, the partitions may. GL d8d btw, Try Linuxquestions.org

Just my 2 cents here. I can't help directly but what I can tell is that you won't see the partitions within my computer. You should see them in Computer Management though and they will be marked as an unknown partition.

Try linuxquestions.org forums (they have a lot more knowledgeable people).
Try resintalling SLED10
I have the same line in my /etc/fstab, so dunno what the problem is there.
Try Mandriva 2007
Also try the Kubuntu 64 bit version.
Bump your thread on ubuntu forums.
Nice thing about linux is that there are a zillion alternatives. -
I was afraid to try the Kubuntu, because SLED did something to my machine. I didn't know if I could make the problem worse.
Actually, I just stuck the SLED disk into the machine, figuring that I would see whether it would ask whether I wanted the M$ partition. It did ask me, so I continued the install. (I am plantluvver because I garden. I spell it wrong, because there was already a plantlover, and I did not want to be Mary763 or some other obnoxious number, whicccch I would forget. I honestly think that plants are super clever beings, because of the way they get animals to run around and do work for them, from bees to landscapers. LOL
I only looked under My Computer, which shows the partition size that the install said.
I didn't return the computer after all. The agreement between me and the manager is that if his Wizards can't get Linux to run, I get a refund. The Wizards weren't on duty today, so I am taking it back in on Wednesday.

Which country is this in again, and which store ? -
I had a look at the Linux Format DVD SLED 10 today, and during the installation some of the RPM packages came up with an error dialog with three buttons (abort, retry, and ignore). I don't know if you got these?
Also when installing, it is often possible to switch away from the installation screen to view additional information or get to a console where you can type in commands by using Ctrl-Alt-Fx combination (where x is between 1 to 7 and sometimes higher).
I was trying to install under Qemu, a PC emulator, it's unlikely that it should have caused a problem with basic installation.
Where magazine coverdiscs are concerned I treat them with a healthy scepticism:
a) I wouldn't try installing software that the magazine has had a hand in mucking up i.e. only try the distros that have an .iso file that requires that extra step of burning a CD. One of the advanced text menus was to test the DVD, and it didn't even recognise the DVD let alone perform any verification.
b) Publishing dead lines and competition from other magazines has meant that in the past the magazines have published the latest distro claiming it to be full release, which isn't alyways possible when you think of how far in advanced a disc must have to be prepared for manufacture.
c) The magazines are trying to squeeze as much as possible onto the DVD disc and so they quite often cut things down especially where a) applies.
I hope your store wizards have got your laptop sorted out.
