Hey guys, I'm not sure if this thread's been already posted(I've been inactive for a very long time)(by that I mean I'm not sure if a thread in regards to GNOME has been posted) and if so any moderator reading this can feel free to delete this, but I thought it was too big of an achievement and mile stone in GNOME's development to simply not let you guys know.
GNOME has recently released its all knew user interface called, 'GNOME Shell', I don't even think it's in Alpha stages right now, but I'm running it as we speak and it's VERY different.
Anyway, I won't just repeat what MakeTechEasier's article has to say about it, I'll just link you to it:
http://maketecheasier.com/gnome-shell-your-next-desktop-environment/2009/09/09
If anyone has any questions in regards to its interface or whatever, I'll be happy to answer, however, with the more technical questions I probably won't be able too(I'll try however), seeing as I don't know a lot about Linux.
I'm currently running it as I type on Ubuntu 9.04, I can't really comment on other distributions.
Overall I've had no problems, however I was reading a few of the comments on the article and apparently some applications like Tomboy Notes don't work.
So yeah, the article explains how to install it and has some screenshots.
If anyone wants me to add some more screenshots I'll be happy too.

I saw it on the Ubuntu forums and youtube, and a lot of people don't really like it. I don't really either, but we shall see once it becomes final.

Its going to be an intresting concept, i'm not sure if i'll use it or not though. BUt i'll more than likely give it a try to see if it works better for how i use a computer.

I find myself really liking the interface... it seems very intuitive and work-oriented. It's the kind of interface with more information immediately available to the user, though it's an unusual departure from GNOME tradition.

I'm going to try it myself....only to know if I like it

Interesting concept... it looks like it might actually fit with the way I like to use my Linux workspace. I'll have to try this.

Ne1 seen if this affects games? For example if you leave compiz enabled during gaming sessions, you can sometimes see the gnome bar if you are running it the same resolutions as your desktop. I leave all effects off to avoid any issues.

Wow, this is really different.....I'll see if I can get used to it / like it
EDIT: It's not for me, at least not _yet_....I couldn't get FF3.5 Shiretoko to launch with it....everything else, OK....couldn't see how to tweak the shell itself as the fonts didn't look great, and icons were too big, etc.
GNOME Shell :D!
