If I type on the keyboard on the blank homescreen this box pops up on the right bottom corner.

Anyone know what it is for?

I'm using GNOME-shell + Ubuntu 11.10 x64 + many extensions and this does not happen on my system.
It could be a distro specific extension to the shell or a bug.
Is that Fedora or Ubuntu w/ gnome-shell? -
Is it a search bar of some sort? Try putting some stuff on your desktop and searching for it
-
Tried it. You are correct. It will search through things you have stored in your desktop folder. Not sure of what practical use that is though.

Is this when you have nautilus operating the desktop?
-
Yes. Nautilus operating the desktop, and only when you have not launched a single app. Once you have something running, you cannot access it anymore.

Yeah that's it, it's the normal nautilus find functionality when you start typing.
It seems to be enabled even if you don't have desktop icons enabled.
Gnome 3 shell question. Anyone know what this is for.
