So, the gnome menu has no applications...
Here's a picture, so you know what I mean:

Did it before?
-
Well, obviously it did. Like any other gnome menu full of applications
-
Ah, I see. Of course, I have to ask the standard "And what did you do just before it stopped working?"
Well, do you think your problem could be something like this? -
Try the tri-menu system perhaps?
Also verify /usr/share/applications exist and has files in it. -
-
Whatabout the standard tri-menu?

Tried posting in the Ubuntu forums as well? I wonder...think I'll look around some more. Do you know where the application.menu file/folder is, but it's the recreation you're unclear on? Anyways, hope this gets cleared up. -
I've posted there, as well as a gnome forum. So far, this thread is the only one with the biggest response. (*sobs* I love NBR *sobs*)
I know where the folders are and such.. Well, at least I know the sure-fire way of doing it is to re-install gnome or my OS, but surely there's a more 'elegant' way of doing things. -
Wow. Hmmm....yes. So, do you have any clue what might have caused it?
I don't know if this is any help, but it did say something about removing/adding menu items. -
Well, I know that after I install my Arch base system, I went with Gnome, and everything was ok. Then I switched to kdemod4.1 a bit, then to kdemod4.2beta, but that didn't work. Then I switched to kdemod4.1 again for about a week, then deleted that and came back to Gnome. That's when the menus disappeared.

Try right clicking > Edit menu.
If theres any checked boxes for apps you should see them in the menu. -
-
Hmm....whoa.......try adding a new item/menu and seeing if it shows up?
-
I clicked on "Revert" on the bottom of the window, and it didn't work. Now I can't even open the "Edit Menus" application anymore. -
I have no idea then.......hmmm....
-
pacman -R gnome gnome-extra
pacman -S gnome gnome-extra
best I can recommend -
-
Yes, it would probably help to clear pacman's cache, let us know how it goes.
-
Urgh!
After 45mins, the menu items still won't show. I think it's something to do with my settings in /home/gary/, rather than a problem with gnome. I blame my own mass DE switching a while back. Probably left some orphaned files or something. -
Try to delete ~/.gnome, you'll lose all your settings, maybe ~/.gconf and related directories as well. Maybe it'll fix it, but first try adding a new user and logging in and testing it.

Hmm.....reformat probably is the ticket.
